Ranking Member Bachus Names New Ranking Members For House Financial Services Subcommittees

WASHINGTON, Sep 12 -

Representative Spencer Bachus (R-6th, Alabama), Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee, today announced the following changes among subcommittee ranking members:

• Rep. Judy Biggert (R- 13th, IL) will serve as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, filling the vacancy created by the untimely death of Rep. Paul Gillmor.

• Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-2nd, WV) will serve as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity, filling the vacancy created as Rep. Biggert assumes her new duties. Rep. Capito previously served as Deputy Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises.

"I am grateful for the confidence my colleagues have placed in me, and I am pleased to accept a leadership role on this important subcommittee. It would be impossible to truly fill the large shoes left by my late friend, Paul Gillmor, but I hope to live up to his good example of hard work and bipartisan cooperation," said Rep. Biggert, who has served on the Financial Services Committee since 1999 and the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit since 2001.

"I would like to commend Ranking Member Bachus for his leadership on the Financial Services Committee," stated Rep. Capito. "I look forward to the new challenges of serving as Ranking Member on the Housing Subcommittee and welcome this opportunity to highlight the housing needs of our nation, especially in rural communities."

"The House Financial Services Committee continues to face a number of important issues during the 110th Congress," stated Rep. Bachus. "During my service on the Committee, I have gotten to know Representatives Biggert and Capito very well. Both colleagues are top-notch legislators who will perform their new duties with integrity, thoughtfulness, and energy. Ranking Member Gillmor was not only an outstanding legislator, he was a good man who was a friend to all on the Committee, and we will miss him deeply."
