Statement by Ranking Member Spencer Bachus Regarding The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act

WASHINGTON, Apr 26 -

Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-06) today issued the following statement regarding legislation introduced by U.S. Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) that would remove restrictions on illegal Internet gambling:

“It should come as no surprise that I fundamentally oppose any attempts to repeal or weaken The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act which was adopted in the House last year by a vote of 317 to 93.  The overwhelming vote in favor of this legislation reflected widespread public concern over the ill effects of illegal internet gambling on our youth as was fully expressed in testimony before the Financial Services Committee prior to passage of the legislation.  Nothing has changed and I am confident this proposed bill will be rejected.”
