Statement by Ranking Member Bachus Regarding Bush Balanced Budget Plan

WASHINGTON, Feb 5 -

“President Bush’s plan to balance the federal budget by 2012 without raising taxes represents a strong and necessary step forward for our nation’s financial services industry.   At a time when America is facing energetic competition from growing financial markets in Europe and Asia, balancing the budget will help boost confidence in the long-term health of our economy among investors here and abroad.  This goal transcends partisan politics, so I hope the Democratic majority will work cooperatively with the White House and Congressional Republicans to make a balanced budget a reality.”
