Chairman Bachus Announces Changes in Committee’s Staff Leadership

Washington, Jan 20 -

Financial Services Committee Chairman Spencer Bachus announced two changes to the committee’s staff leadership on Friday.

Larry Lavender is leaving his position as Chief of Staff for the Financial Services Committee to manage the primary re-election campaign of Chairman Bachus and then later join the Washington, DC office of the law firm Jones Walker.  Lavender has served as the Committee’s Chief of Staff since Republicans gained control of the House of Representatives following the 2010 elections.  He previously served as the Committee’s minority staff director and as Chief of Staff to Bachus.

Jim Clinger, who currently serves as the Committee’s Chief Counsel, has been appointed to the Chief of Staff position.  After earning his law degree from the University of Virginia in 1987, Clinger practiced commercial law with the firm Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan before joining the staff of what was then called the House Banking Committee in 1995.  From 2001 to 2003, Clinger served as Bachus’ counsel during his tenure as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit.  He spent a year and a half as Deputy Assistant Attorney General and then Acting Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs at the U.S. Department of Justice from 2005-2007 before being appointed as the Financial Services Committee’s Republican chief counsel in 2007.

“Larry and Jim have done exceptional work on the Committee and I’m very pleased that both of them are moving forward in their careers,” said Chairman Bachus.
