Chairman Bachus Announces Committee Schedule for Rest of March

Washington, Mar 16 -

Financial Services Committee Chairman Spencer Bachus announced today the Committee’s schedule for the second half of March.

Witnesses for each hearing will be announced at later dates.  All hearings will take place in the Committee’s main hearing room, 2128 Rayburn.

Tuesday, March 20:
The Full Committee will receive the annual report on the state of the international financial system from Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.  The hearing will begin at 10 a.m.

Wednesday, March 21:
The Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises Subcommittee will convene a legislative hearing on a bill to ensure data sharing among international financial regulators.  The bill, which has not yet been formally introduced, will clarify the indemnification provisions contained in Title VII of the Dodd-Frank Act that may legally preclude U.S.-based swaps repositories and clearing houses from providing market data to regulators.  The hearing will begin at 10 a.m.

Thursday, March 22:
The Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee will hold a hearing to examine the opportunities and challenges presented by mobile payments, as well as an evaluation of the legal, regulatory and security frameworks necessary to implement a safe mobile financial product.  The hearing will begin at 10 a.m.

Tuesday, March 27:
The Domestic Monetary Policy and Technology Subcommittee will convene a hearing to examine the Federal Reserve’s assistance to the Eurozone and its impact on the U.S. economy, the monetary system and the dollar. The hearing will begin at 10 a.m.

At 1 p.m., the Full Committee will mark up bills that will be announced at a later date.

Wednesday, March 28:
The Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises Subcommittee will convene a hearing to examine current issues facing the accounting and auditing profession.  A Subcommittee hearing on this topic was originally planned for December.  The hearing will begin at 10 a.m.

At 2 p.m., the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee will convene its third hearing to examine the collapse of MF Global.  During this hearing, the Subcommittee will focus on the firm’s last week of operation before it filed for bankruptcy.
