McHenry Statement on Nomination of Former Federal Reserve Chair Yellen to Lead Treasury

Washington, Nov 30 -

Today, the Republican leader of the House Financial Services Committee, Patrick McHenry (NC-10), issued the following statement in response to former Vice President Joe Biden’s decision to nominate former Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen to serve as Treasury Secretary:

“Janet Yellen demonstrated her intellect, foresight, and independence during the financial crisis, and throughout her term as Fed Chair. While I will work against the Biden Administration’s agenda of tax increases and burdensome regulations, I think it’s important we have credible and experienced people to serve at the highest levels of government. Yellen has clearly demonstrated her capacity during her public service.

“Any potential Treasury Secretary’s priorities should be ushering targeted relief to our struggling small businesses, ensuring our long-term financial stability, and respecting the independence of the Federal Reserve—not codifying partisan priorities.

“It’s important to note, if confirmed by the Senate, former Chair Yellen would once again make history, this time as the first woman to lead the Treasury and I commend her for this accomplishment.”
