McHenry Statement on Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine

Today, the top Republican on the House Financial Services Committee, Patrick McHenry (NC-10), issued the following statement regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine:

“Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is as evil as it is dangerous,” said Republican Leader McHenry. “Americans stand with our democratic ally while praying for the safety of its people. Putin’s quest to rewrite the post-Cold War order of Europe is an affront to free people everywhere. Russia's aggression not only threatens millions of innocent civilians, but our global economic recovery as well.

“The U.S. must take decisive action to isolate Russia and prepare for a long-term commitment to cut them off from the international community. We need strong, broad sanctions that can change Moscow’s calculations. That means coordinating our sanctions with our allies to ensure that Beijing doesn’t come to Putin’s rescue. America and our allies must finally hold Putin accountable for years of provocations and disregard for international law.

“While we confront Russia's malignant actions, we must not lose sight of China—our major global competitor.”
