Media Advisory: Committee Hearing Schedule for the Week of March 14

Washington, March 11, 2016 -

WASHINGTON - Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) today announced the committee’s hearing schedule for the week of March 14:

Wednesday, March 16 at 10:00 A.M. – The Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing to examine the organization, management and actions of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection and to receive testimony from Director Richard Cordray on the Bureau’s most recent Semi-Annual Report to Congress.  Since Director Cordray’s last appearance before the committee, the committee issued two staff reports detailing how the Bureau spent significant resources attempting to regulate automobile dealers, despite the fact that federal law explicitly prohibits the CFPB from regulating those businesses.  Additionally, the Bureau has moved forward with plans to propose regulations that will harm consumers by taking away their right to access small dollar, short-term loans.

Wednesday, March 16 at 2:00 P.M. – The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled “The FDIC’s Targeting of Refund Anticipation Loans.” This hearing will examine the FDIC’s supervisory approach to financial institutions offering Refund Anticipation Loans, including whether key FDIC personnel inappropriately sought to pressure financial institutions to stop providing these credit products.  Fred W. Gibson, Jr., the Acting Inspector General of the FDIC, will testify and present a report on the Office of Inspector General’s inquiry.

All committee activity will take place in Room 2128 of the Rayburn House Office Building. Additional information, including a live video of the proceedings, will be available on the Committee’s website.
