Chairman Bachus Releases Statement on Resignation of SEC Chairman Schapiro

Washington, November 26, 2012 -

Financial Services Committee Chairman Spencer Bachus released the following statement today on the resignation of Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro:

“As Chairman of the Financial Services Committee, I have witnessed firsthand Chairman Schapiro’s strong commitment to public service and her thoughtful leadership of the SEC.  She served during a very difficult time and there is no question she inherited an agency that is structurally flawed.  But by streamlining and reshaping the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, Chairman Schapiro was able to deploy more staff to investigate and initiate civil actions against alleged violators of federal securities laws.  I have very high regard for her professionally and personally and I wish her all the best.”
