Chairman Hensarling Announces Hearing Schedule for March


Washington, February 27, 2013 -

Chairman Jeb Hensarling today announced the Financial Services Committee’s schedule of hearings for the month of March.  Throughout the month, the committee will focus attention on the Federal Reserve’s conduct of monetary policy, the need for a sustainable housing finance system, regulatory burdens hindering economic growth, and ending “Too Big to Fail.”

All hearings will take place in the Financial Services Committee’s main hearing room, 2128 Rayburn. Witnesses for the hearings will be announced at later dates.

The Committee schedule is tentative and will depend upon witness availability and other factors that may require changes.  Therefore, each meeting will become final only when the official notice is distributed. 

March 5 at 10:00 a.m. – The Monetary Policy and Trade Subcommittee will explore reactions to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s recent testimony before the House and Senate on the economy and monetary policy.

March 6 at 10:00 a.m. – The Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises Subcommittee will examine the role Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac played in the onset of the financial crisis of 2008-09.

March 13 at 10:00 a.m. – The Housing and Insurance Subcommittee will hold a hearing on the competitive advantages the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) has relative to private mortgage insurers and how those advantages contribute to the crowding out of private capital in housing finance.

March 14 at 10:00 a.m. – The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee will hold a hearing on the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) and its role in determining which institutions are “Too Big to Fail.”  

March 19 at 10:00 a.m. – The Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing on the Federal Housing Finance Agency.

March 20 at 10:00 a.m. – The Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee will hold a hearing on the growing burden of federal regulations on small financial institutions across the country.
