Washington, March 31, 2017 -

The Financial Services Committee will have four hearings and two bills up for debate on the House floor next week.  Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) today announced the committee’s schedule for the week of April 3:

Tuesday, April 4 at 10:00 A.M. – The Monetary Policy and Trade Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled, “Examining the Federal Reserve’s Mandate and Governance Structure.” The hearing will examine how well the Federal Reserve’s statutory mandate and governance institutions more generally are performing in terms of providing foundational support for businesses and household economic opportunities.

Tuesday, April 4 at 2:00 P.M. – The Monetary Policy and Trade and Terrorism and Illicit Finance Subcommittees will hold a joint hearing entitled, “Increasing the Effectiveness of Non-Nuclear Sanctions Against Iran.” The hearing will address the effectiveness of U.S. sanctions in response to Iran’s illicit behavior, including its support for terrorism and regional destabilization. Witnesses will consider whether new designations or sanctions authorities may contribute to halting Iranian offenses and reducing illicit finance risk internationally.

Wednesday, April 5 at 10:00 A.M. – Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Richard Cordray will appear before the full committee to testify about the Bureau’s 2016 semi-annual reports and face questions from lawmakers about the Bureau’s actions and its impact on consumers.

Thursday, April 6 at 9:15 A.M. – The Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled, “Examination of the Federal Financial Regulatory System and Opportunities for Reform.” The hearing will examine due process for financial companies and opportunities for reform of the federal financial agencies.

All hearings will take place in Room 2128 of the Rayburn House Office Building and will be broadcast live on republicans-financialservices.house.gov/.

The House of Representatives is scheduled to consider the following two bills in the Committee’s jurisdiction next week:

H.R. 1343, the “Encouraging Employee Ownership Act of 2017” – authored by Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-IL), the bill modernizes a regulatory threshold for shares offered as part of employee compensatory benefit plans, better allowing the employees of privately-held businesses to take full advantage of the JOBS Act’s shareholder provisions.

H.R. 1219, the “Supporting America’s Innovators Act of 2017” – authored by Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), the bill modernizes the limit on the number of individuals who can invest in certain venture capital funds before those funds must register with the SEC as “investment companies” under the Investment Company Act of 1940.

Both bills passed the Committee on March 9, 2017 with overwhelming bipartisan support.
