Hensarling Announces Departure of Staff Director Shannon McGahn, Congratulates Incoming Staff Director Ed Skala

WASHINGTON – House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) announced today that Shannon McGahn, the committee’s Staff Director, will be departing the committee in the coming weeks.
“Shannon has been by my side as a trusted advisor and friend throughout some of the most pivotal moments of my career. Her leadership and strategic counsel have been invaluable to this entire committee as we’ve worked with the Senate and the Administration to deliver significant bipartisan victories. While Shannon will be greatly missed as a member of my team, I have no doubt she will continue to lead in her future endeavors,” Hensarling said.
McGahn has served the Financial Services Committee in several senior roles since 2010: as Staff Director (2013-2017; 2018), Deputy Staff Director for Strategy and Public Affairs (2012-2013), and Deputy Staff Director for Communications (2010-2011). In 2017, McGahn served as Counselor to the Secretary of the Treasury, where she advised the Secretary on legislative and public affairs and managed coalition efforts. In addition to her time in the Administration and at the Committee, Shannon handled communications for three leadership offices, serving as a spokesman for House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and as communications director for Conference Chairman Jeb Hensarling. Shannon began her Capitol Hill career in 2000 as a staff member to Rep. Jennifer Dunn.
Hensarling also announced that Ed Skala will be promoted to the role of Staff Director.
“With nearly 20 years of experience on Capitol Hill, Ed’s deep understanding of financial services policy and the political landscape have led to some of the biggest victories achieved by this Committee. Ed’s service to this committee is invaluable and I am grateful to have him at the helm during my last few months in Congress,” said Hensarling.
Skala has served the Financial Services Committee as Deputy Staff Director (2017-2018), Policy Director (2013-2017), and Senior Professional Staff Member (2011-2013). Prior to joining the committee, he served as Policy Director and Legislative Director in Chairman Hensarling’s personal office and Chief of Staff to Representative Mark Kennedy. Ed started his time in Congress as the Legislative Director for Majority Leader Dick Armey.
