McHenry Statement on President Trump’s State of the Union Address
Washington,
February 5, 2019 -
WASHINGTON – Congressman Patrick McHenry (NC-10), Republican leader of the House Financial Services Committee, issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address:
“Tonight, Congress, and the American people, had the opportunity to hear directly from our Commander in Chief on his vision for our nation as we continue to build on the gains achieved in the last year.
“The U.S. economy is proof that tax reform, spearheaded by Republicans and this Administration, is working. January marked the 100th straight month of job growth, but, just as the President said, we’re just getting started. In my role as the Republican Leader of the House Financial Services Committee, I will continue to push for the rollback of burdensome regulations that hindered our economic success under previous administrations.
“Additionally, I was glad to hear the President reiterate his strong stance against Chinese aggression, including their ongoing efforts to steal our intellectual property and continued state-sponsored hacks of U.S. firms, which I have already urged the House Financial Services committee to examine. We must use all tools available to combat the economic threat posed by China, including the President’s ongoing negotiations to protect American workers from flawed Chinese trade deals.
“The President laid out a clear view of the challenges we face as a nation. Now we must work together on finding solutions.”
