McHenry Statement on Supreme Court Ruling on the President’s Financial Records
Washington,
July 9, 2020 -
Today, the top Republican on the House Financial Services Committee, Patrick McHenry (NC-10), released the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled to send the Trump v. Mazars case, concerning President Trump and his family’s financial records, back to lower courts for further consideration:
“The Court recognized what Republicans have said all along: this was a partisan fishing expedition. The Court recognized Chairwoman Waters’ subpoena is unnecessarily broad and covers an extraordinary amount of personal information—including medical information and records related to the President’s young son and grandchildren—that could not possibly be relevant to any legislation.
“I hope the Democrat leadership will be more mindful of those legitimate privacy interests and more protective of our institutional interests as this process plays out pursuant to the Court’s order.”
