McHenry Statement on Nomination of Rep. Fudge to Lead HUD
Washington,
December 10, 2020 -
Today, the Republican leader of the House Financial Services Committee, Patrick McHenry (NC-10), issued the following statement in response to former Vice-President Joe Biden’s decision to nominate Congresswoman Marcia Fudge (OH-11) to serve as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD):
“The housing needs of Americans are too great to appoint someone who is accepting this position as a consolation prize. It’s clear Congresswoman Fudge wanted the Agriculture Secretary position, not HUD, which makes sense because she has no experience with housing policy. We have a dozen Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee who would have the credibility and expertise for this position. While I disagree with the policies they’d push, I’d at least have confidence in them to do the job. The same cannot be said about Congresswoman Fudge.”
