McHenry Statement on Updated Debt Limit X-Date Projections
Washington,
May 1, 2023 -
Today, the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Patrick McHenry (NC-10), issued the following statement after the Treasury Department announced its updated debt limit X-date projection and President Biden invited Speaker McCarthy to the White House for a meeting regarding the debt limit:
“It’s past time for Biden to join House Republicans at the adult table and negotiate to avoid a default,” said Chairman McHenry. “The updated X-date from Treasury underscores the urgency with which he must come to the table. President Biden told Republicans to show him our plan, and we did. Last week, under the leadership of Speaker McCarthy, House Republicans became the only people in Washington to actually take action to raise the debt limit. Senator Schumer has done nothing. It’s telling that the White House is so confident in their position, yet the Senate has not voted on a so-called clean debt limit increase.”
