Chairman Hill and Bipartisan Delegation Meet with Mexican President Sheinbaum

On Friday, July 25, 2025, House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill (R-AR) led a bipartisan delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives to meet with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. The lawmakers discussed the fundamental importance of the bilateral security and economic relationship between the United States and Mexico. The delegation also reviewed key issues of importance to both nations, including Mexico’s commitment to increasing border security, the nations’ joint fight against the trafficking of persons and drugs - particularly fentanyl - and countering illicit finance. President Sheinbaum and the lawmakers also evaluated shared strategies for strengthening trilateral trade under the successful USMCA and encouraging greater investment and innovation in North America from all over the world. After their meeting, Chairman Hill said, “President Sheinbaum demonstrated her commitment to a mutually safe and secure border, a shared robust fight against illicit finance, and crafting a successful review of the USMCA that yields greater economic growth and benefits working families in the United States, Mexico and Canada.” Rep. Don Davis, Ranking Member of the Commodity Markets, Digital Assets, and Rural Development Subcommittee of the House Agriculture Committee and Vice Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, said, “Our delegation’s meeting with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was both constructive and productive. She emphasized the proactive measures Mexico is implementing to address fentanyl and cartel activities and efforts to secure our southern border. We appreciate her commitment to working closely with the United States and equally recognize the importance of stable trade policies due to our interconnected economies.” Rep. María Elvira Salazar, Chair of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said, “I was highly pleased with our conversation with President Sheinbaum. She was receptive, engaging, and highly focused on finding common ground between our two nations on how to best deal with problems that affect us as neighbors.
