Committee Seeks Answers on Living Conditions and Management at 32 Troubled Public Housing Agencies

House Committee on Financial Services Chairman French Hill (AR-02), Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Chairman Dan Meuser (PA-09), and Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance Chairman Mike Flood (NE-01), sent letters to 32 different Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) that have been identified by the Department of Housing and Urban Development as “troubled.” The letters are part of the Committee’s investigation into the quality and safety of America’s public housing. In the letter, the Committee raises concerns about conditions public housing residents are facing and seek information on property management, financial oversight, and long-term plans to address deficiencies. The Committee emphasizes that PHAs have a responsibility to ensure residents have access to safe, clean, and affordable housing and stresses the importance of strong management, fiscal responsibility, and accountability to protect tenants and taxpayers.
