WASHINGTON: Financial Services Committee Chairman Spencer Bachus today announced the committee’s planned hearing schedule for May 2011. The May hearing and markup schedule builds upon the Committee’s efforts to thoroughly review government policies, programs and regulations and assess their impact on economic activity, job creation, and capital formation. During the month of May, the Committee will also continue to work on building a stronger housing finance system. Since the beginning of the 112th Congress, the Committee has convened 33 hearings and markups and received testimony from over 130 witnesses.
Chairman Bachus said, “The Committee remains committed to removing government roadblocks to a sustainable economic recovery. Central to this effort is our ongoing review of the Dodd-Frank Act, which requires regulators to write more than 300 new rules and regulations that will have a major impact on America’s job creators. What our economy needs right now are government policies that promote growth, job creation and a competitive financial marketplace.”
The planned schedule for May remains tentative and will depend upon witness availability and other factors that may require changes. Therefore, each meeting will become final only when the official notice is distributed. Hearing witnesses will be announced at later dates.

· Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises Subcommittee markup of bills to promote job creation and capital formation at 10 a.m. in room 2128 Rayburn. Bill to be considered include: H.R. 33, H.R. 940, H.R. 1062, H.R. 1070, H.R. 1539, H.R. 1610, and H.R. 1082
Wednesday, May 4:
· Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee markup of bills to improve the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at 10 a.m. in room 2128 Rayburn. Bills to be considered include: H.R. 1121 and H.R. 1315.
Wednesday, May 11:
· Domestic Monetary Policy and Technology Subcommittee hearing on the Federal Reserve’s compliance with the Dodd-Frank Act and the Freedom of Information Act at 10 a.m. in room 2128 Rayburn
· Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises Subcommittee hearing to examine the Dodd-Frank Whistleblower provisions at 2 p.m. in room 2128 Rayburn
Thursday, May 12:
· Full Committee mark up of bills to extend the deadline for implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act’s provisions regarding derivatives; to reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program; and to improve the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at 10 a.m. in room 2128 Rayburn
Friday, May 13:
· Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee hearing on the Stanford Financial Ponzi scheme at 10 a.m. in room 2128 Rayburn
