McHenry Statement on Senate Banking Housing Finance Reform Outline
Washington,
February 1, 2019 -
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Patrick McHenry (NC-10), Republican leader of the House Financial Services Committee, issued the following statement in response to Senate Banking Committee Chairman Mike Crapo’s (R-ID) recently released outline for housing finance reform legislation:
“It is critical we explore all paths toward responsibly ending the government sponsorship of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac,” said Ranking Member McHenry. “I am glad to see Chairman Crapo take an important step by outlining his proposed plan and am eager to work with him and Chairwoman Waters to craft meaningful finance reform legislation. In a letter to the Chairwoman last month, I called on the House Financial Services Committee to take up this issue and hold a hearing as soon as possible on the role of the federal government in mortgage finance. I strongly agree with Chairman Crapo, the time is now to resolve this issue. I look forward to joining him, and my colleagues across the aisle, in this effort.”
